In a past life I worked in medical research and even have co-authored papers on RT-PCR techniques that are now being used to test for the Coronavirus. I am NOT an expert in virology or epidemiology, but I am skilled at discerning poorly written click-bait from serious medical findings. I have assembled a few useful links to understanding the virus as this story unfolds.
I’ll start off with a thread I wrote about why Melbourne is so important to both the international response to create a vaccine, and the national response to provide quality testing for clinicians.
I need to do a quick shout out to the folks in Melbourne laboratories who are working hard to save a lot of lives.

At first glance it looks like Rona is reactivating in patients, but it turns out the explanation might simply be false negatives in the testing regime.

This is one of the best explainers I've read on how infection proceeds, and how our bodies respond. Note the time frames, they are absolutely critical.

This drone footage captures NYC workers burying bodies in a mass grave on Hart Island, just off the coast of the Bronx. For over a century, the island has served as a potter’s field for deceased with no known next of kin or families unable to pay for funerals. pic.twitter.com/wBVIGlX6aK

The first confirmed coronavirus case in New York was a woman who flew into JFK in February and tested positive March 1. The next day, Gov. Cuomo and Mayor Bill de Blasio promised investigators would track down every person on her flight.

Fascinating stuff here. Genomic detectives are beginning to piece together the geography and chronology of COVIDs spread to the US. Lack of testing left the country blind to the spread. NYC's epidemic came not from China but from Europe. https://t.co/NUinr3dYtO

Vaccine technology is complex. It demands funding (hint hint) and clinical trials will be difficult if we don't act fast. There is a window of opportunity in play and a lot of talented people are in the race.
